Fox Hill Vineyard
Aged in neutral French oak for five months with lees contact and stirred once a month to increase complexity and mouth-feel.
De-stemmed and crushed into macro bins. Allowed skin contact for four hours before pressing into a stainless steel tank for fermentation at 55F to dryness with no malolactic fermentation.
Guava, kumquat and cherry blossoms dominate the nose with layers of red berries and white pepper in the background. The palate is round and exhibits great minerality, which is complemented well by the high level of acidity contributing to a crisp finish.
Nebbiolo is a red grape native of Piedmont region of Italy. Our Nebbiolo destined for rose production comes from Fox Hill Vineyard, located at 1,500 feet of altitude on the west facing slopes of Inland Mendocino County, where the hot days and cool nights create ideal conditions for growing Nebbiolo. The 2014 harvest season was marked by a severe drought throughout California, with only some rain in spring that helped saved the year. This is also considered to be the earliest harvest season in over a decade, as well as a very condensed one, with sparkling wine production beginning in July and still wine finishing by mid-October. Even with all the obstacles put in place by nature, the quality of the wines is as high as the last two vintages for many varietals. Small berries played a big role as they brought more density and intensity of flavors to the finished wines.

Via Cellars was created to celebrate the journey a wine takes from grape to table. We are passionate in our search for vineyards that we consider to be hidden gems, and strong in our desire to bring their unique varietals to light and tell their stories. Our wines are handcrafted in small lots of 50 cases or less to fully explore and highlight the intrinsic characteristics of the grape and land. Then we turn the wine over to you to finish the story, preferably around a table with food, family, and friends.
